Oligomeric Curing Activators Enable Conventional Sulfur-Vulcanized Rubbers to Self-Heal

چکیده
When introducing self-healing properties to elastomers, it is often difficult balance their ability recover after damage with a good mechanical strength prior damage. We demonstrate that by replacing the activator system used in conventional accelerated vulcanization (CV) chemistry, from traditional zinc oxide (ZnO) and stearic acid complex formed between ω-propenyl functional oligomers of poly(zinc methacrylate) (pZnMA/ZnO), vulcanized natural rubbers are enhanced while maintaining tensile strengths. The pZnMA oligomers, as synthesized catalytic chain transfer polymerization (CCTP), act an for sulfur curing system, also forming ionic network rubber. addition 20 phr pZnMA/ZnO CV resulted cured rubber 7.47 ± 0.64 MPa, which recovered 86.7% at 80 °C 2 h. Further 40 carbon black N234 unexpectedly efficiency these 92.2% under same conditions improved room temperature. Finally, dynamic thermal analysis indicated formulations containing showed wet traction but higher rolling resistance standard formulation. These results point interesting direction further research into performance composites vehicle tire applications.

A commonly used tread rubber formulation was cured in the laboratory under conditions simulating vulcanization in the Bag-O-Matic press. Volatile emissions were collected on charcoal and analyzed by combined GC-mass spectrometry. The compounds identified were either contaminants present in the raw material or reaction products. Some of these compounds were also identified in charcoal tube sampl...
متن کاملEffect of intermolecular forces in mechanical behavior of elastomers
Importance of intermolecular forces (interactions of molecular chains) in the characteristic mechanical behavior of elastomers is studied. To focus on the microstructure of sulfur vulcanized rubbers, different network structures of NR/SBR elastomeric blends are investigated. The main difference of these structures comes from the ratio of sulfur to accelerator content in the curing systems. This...

Today concrete is most generally utilized development material in the world due to its strength and sturdiness properties. To attain good strength, curing of concrete is important so we introduce the concept of self-curing concrete rather than immersion or sprinkle curing to avoid water scarcity. It was observed that water solvent polymers can be utilized as a self-curing agent, i.e. polyethyle...

Fire ants, Solenopsis invicta, link their bodies together to form structures such as rafts, bivouacs and bridges. Such structures are in danger of being damaged by natural disturbances such as passing water currents. In this combined experimental and theoretical study, we investigate the self-healing of ant assemblages. We press two ant aggregations together and measure the forces to pull them ...

Isocyanate-free cathodic ED coatings. Most of the resins used in the cathodic electrodeposition (CED) coatings are made from modified epoxy resin and blocked polyisocyanate in which the crosslinking is achieved by polyurethane and polyurea formation. A resin system has been developed that is isocyanate free and avoids not only the toxicity aspect, but also, to a great extent, the weight loss of...
